The group seemed "really prepared" and it appeared the operation had been planned for a long time, she said. "They gave us pitta bread, hard cheese, some low fat cream cheese and cucumber and that was our food for the entire day." However, Hamas militants treated hostages "gently" in captivity and "looked after our needs", Ms Lifshitz said. The hostages were forced to walk for several kilometres on the wet ground of a "spiderweb" of underground tunnels. Ms Lifshitz was "taken through ploughed fields" and hit by Hamas fighters as she was taken into Gaza. Her mother was taken on the back of a motorbike with her legs on one side and her head on the other. She is speaking in Hebrew, but her daughter Sharone Lifschitz is translating.
